Camp Able Appeal

Dear Friend of St. Columba,

Thank you for supporting Camp Able at St. Columba - a nationally known camp serving children and adults with disabilities, or “diverse-abilities.” Joy, laughter, and freedom are the backbone of Camp Able, as kids and adults are able to forget about their limitations and make memories here that last forever. In an ever-increasing sedentary world where phones and computers are always within reach, nature and the outdoors are magical healers for all people, especially those with daily health struggles.

At St. Columba, Camp Able campers get dirty, which is scientifically proven to reduce anxiety and increase problem solving. They soak in Vitamin D, which helps with energy levels and fatigue. They simply have fun in a safe and nurturing environment.

Families that benefit from Camp Able could not describe the powerful impact this camp has any better…

“(My camper) is generally a happy, fun boy. But after a week of Camp Able, he shines. At Camp Able, (my camper) doesn’t have to be the camper that is different. He gets a week of being strong, adventurous, and daring.”

“This is one week a year that (he) gets to go to camp and have a good time. A place where he hears the word ‘yes’ more than the word ‘no!’ The counselors are so patient and kind. This is just the greatest experience ever.”

Pictures of last year’s Camp Able show you just a glimpse of the amazement that your contributions create. Whether it is a first-time rock climber or an eager water-slider, fun and excitement are palpable throughout the week of Camp.

With a waitlist that begins earlier each year, Camp Able is more popular than ever. In order to accommodate staff and volunteers, run our ropes course and water activities, and create a fun and safe environment with a camper to counselor ratio of 1:1, funds are needed to continue to provide this magical week.

Camp Able comes with rising costs which we kindly ask for your help to cover. Our goal is to raise $25,000 to continue to welcome all campers to St. Columba. Whether your gift is $10 or $1,000, please know that any amount helps bring smiles to those who need fun and healing for those who are struggling.

Blessings,

Adam Cruthirds - Director of Camps and Adventure, St. Columba
